Cold Weather Cable Ties

Did you know that varying temperatures can impact the effect of certain cable ties?  No matter the quality of the product, in cold weather, standard cable ties may become brittle and sometimes break. However, there are specialized cable ties designed to withstand varying temperatures. Here are some recommendations Nelco recommends:
Nylon 12:
Look for cable ties made from materials that are known for their durability resistance to cold temperatures. Nylon 12, for example, is a material that remains flexible in cold weather.
Temperature Rating:
Check the temperature rating of the cable ties. Some cable ties are specifically rated for use in cold environments. Nelco’s Cold Weather Ties are ideal for severe cold-temperature applications and have been tested for performance at -20°C (-4°F) per ISO 180.
UV Resistance:
Most cable ties are exposed to sunlight in addition to cold temperatures, so consider UV-resistant cable ties to prevent degradation over time.
Flexibility:
Cable ties designed for cold weather should remain flexible even at low temperatures. In addition, they have a curved tip to make it easy to pick up from flat surfaces allowing for a more speedy installation.
Installation Tools:
Don’t forget about installation tools!  When you’re out in the field during cold weather, an installation tool is a great to have to make your installation quick and professional looking.  Check out this video: https://youtu.be/lJJYLT4X1D8
Locking Mechanism:
It is imperative that cable ties have a reliable locking mechanism, even in cold temperatures. This is important to maintain a secure and stable hold. Some applications require permanent locking, but others require a releasable locking mechanism.
