Luggage and Cable Ties and Locks: What do luggage and cable ties have in common? One is a great solution for keeping the other securely closed. Whether you are a frequent traveler or if this is the first time you will be traveling, you want to keep your luggage securely closed. One of the items you can cross off your list is how to keep your luggage secure while traveling.

Luggage and Cable Ties and Locks: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires, if you are locking your luggage, to purchase a lock they can easily open. These locks have a master password that allows them access to open your luggage should they wish to do so. Instead of using a lock, another way, which is a very inexpensive and simple solution in keeping your luggage secure, is by using cable ties. Purchase some fluorescent or colored cable ties and when you are ready to go, instead of using an approved TSA lock, use a cable tie. These are, in reality, more secure than an actual lock on your luggage and the neat thing is; they are approved by TSA. A few other things to keep in mind, many luggage locks are easy to pick and many locks get knocked off the luggage from bumping up against other luggage or get caught on the conveyor belt. Using cable ties ensures that this cannot happen. Your luggage stays securely closed until you cut the tie off. If you use a non-approved lock and for some reason your luggage gets flagged by the x-ray machine then security will have to cut the lock to access your baggage. Security will then cut the lock and replace it with a cable tie. Another added security measure is, that by using colored ties, if someone cuts the tie and tries to replace it, the color will be different.
