It’s a What?

We at Nelco Products know that when it comes to ordering electrical accessory supplies, it can get confusing when the same item is called something different.  Like some people call Pepsi® pop while others call it soda.  When you are purchasing cable ties for your employees to use in whatever manner they may use them, you may hear and see different names for them.  Many people call cable ties, just that, cable ties.  This is the name that the majority of the companies use in their catalogs as well, but what happens when an employee runs up to you and says, “I need 1,000 zip ties in the color green as soon as possible.” and you have no idea what a zip tie is.

Zip tie is just another name for a cable tie.  The reason they call it a zip tie is because of the little ridges that lock the tie in place once you secure it around a bundle.  When securing the bundle, it makes a sound similar to a zipper being pulled.

Other names may you may hear are hose tie, zap-strap, Ty-Rap®, or lashing strap.

Ty-Rap® is the original name of the cable tie from back in 1956 when the Ty-Rap® was invented by Marcus C. Logan when he was working for the company Thomas & Betts. Since then, the cable tie industry has created different types of zap-straps for just about any use you can think of.

Here at Nelco Products we carry over 30 different types of cable ties including specialty cable ties.  Contact 800-505-6352 to order or for more information.
