Another Unique Use for Your Shrink Tubing

In the fishing industry, heat shrink tubing has proven itself time and time again to be an effective solution for safeguarding systems. The insulating properties are unmatched, especially compared to their cost. For what tubing offers in safety, durability, and cost effectiveness, there is no better shield against weather damage, hazardous exposure, or other exacting conditions.

Yet, in addition to its current advantages, heat shrink tubing can be applied in creative ways which continue to reinvent its possibilities. We constantly marvel over the many ways innovative users are taking our products and using them to fix common problems in various industries.  From initiating quick repairs on a stalled boat engine to fixing a break in a mesh net, users continue to demonstrate ingenuity in utilizing heat shrink tubing. One such operator recently informed Nelco how tubing can resolve a problem that might be familiar to those of you in the fishing industry. So we pass it along with the hope that everyone out there making a living on the waters can simplify their procedures.

As any lobsterman knows, setting up the buoy system is critical. It must adhere to stringent regulations that ensure it is both safe and efficient. Keep in mind Maine’s recent new regulations for fishing singles that must include color coding. Open water environments can be harsh, turning even slabs of concrete into crumbling heaps. Our user was having trouble with the elements destroying components used to reinforce their buoy systems. They’d been drilling a hole in the bottom portion of the buoy stick for threading the line. After continued exposure to water and the sun’s UV rays, the sticks became brittle over time, breaking at the hole. This was compromising the entire system. This forced the user to consistently monitor and recreate the reinforcement.

With a spur of inspiration, they decided to use Nelco heat shrink tubing to reinforce the stick at the hole. Not surprisingly, installation was easy and the results exceeded expectations. They altered the Plant 32 buoy spindle specifically, but this application should produce positive results with other fishing components under similar circumstances.

We encourage everyone to continue thinking up new and innovate ways to utilize heat shrink tubing and other nelco products for their needs in the marine industry and beyond. And if you’re having a problem that you think Nelco can help with, drop us an email or give us a call.
