Releasable Cable Ties are a perfect reusable solution for any wire and cable bundling needs that may require changes in the future. Also known as Reusable Cable Ties and Reusable Zip Ties, they are an ideal cable tie for the home or the office. The releasable ties offer a secure, highly reliable hold, time after time — and are also great for prototype bundling.


Reusable Cable Ties: What Materials Are Used?

  • Releasable Cable Ties
    • These cable ties are made of high-quality, durable nylon material.
    • They military specifications and are UL recognized.
    • Releasable Cable Ties are available in lengths from 5” to 36” and in natural or black.
  • Beaded Cable Ties
    • These ties are made of type 6/6 nylon and low-density polyethylene.
    • Available in six colors, including yellow, black, blue, green, red and natural. (Additional colors are available upon special quote.) 
    • Beaded cable ties are offered in 5” – 14” lengths.
  • Velcro Hook & Loop Ties
    • The durable hook and loop ties are soft, flexible and easy to install.
    • These ties are offered in 5”–18” lengths
    • Available in green, white, blue, yellow, black, red, pink, orange, tan, brown and purple.
    • Ships in 5 or 25-yard in either perforated or non-perforated rolls.

Trigger Release

  • Reusable cable ties are different from regular cable ties. Many use a trigger release mechanism, which holds everything together but only releases with a human touch.
  • A finger-catch mechanism at the locking end is designed to be undone quickly so that it does not interfere with fast-paced jobs. 

Pawl Release

  • Pawl release is another option for reusable cable ties. This uses the pawl release button, which is part of the head rachet.
  • Press the pawl handle down, which will release the ratchet from the tie, and you can easily pull the tail out.

Temperature Rating of Reuseable Cable Ties

  • General purpose nylon 6/6 is suitable for use in most practical applications at a continuous temperature up to 150°F (66°C). It also meets UL 94V-2 flammability ratings.
  • The working temperature range for nylon 6/6 is -40°F to 185°F.
  • For extreme heat environments or situations, Heat Stabilized Nylon 6/6 is used in continuous or extended exposure to temperatures up to 250°F (121°C).
  • Weather Resistant Nylon 12 has a UL relative thermal index rating of 194°F (90°C).
  • UV Stabilized Nylon 6/6 is used in continuous or extended exposure to outdoor light. The nylon cable tie is a weather resistant grade, enduring additional ultraviolet (UV light).

Tensile Strength

  • The Releasable Cable Ties have a tensile strength of either 25 or 50 lbs. depending on the length you choose.
  • Beaded Cable Ties have a tensile strength of up to 75 lbs.

FAQ

Q: Can zip ties be reused?

A: It depends. Zip ties usually come in two forms: single use and reusable. If the product specifies that it can be reused, such as Nelco’s Reusable Cable Ties, you can reuse the ties to bundle television cable, computer wires, and anything else in your home or office. Reusable zip ties are heavy-duty and made to be flexible and tough.

Q: Do you have to cut the tail off with side cutters?

A: This is not necessary, but trimming the end will ensure that the reusable zip ties look neat and orderly.

 

Q: Can you reopen a zip tie?  

A: Yes, reusable zip ties can be reopened, either through the trigger or pawl release.
